TYPES OF COMPLEXION
In order to choose the right upkeep of the skin and the appropriate cosmetics to use it is essential to establish the type of the complexion that needs to be treated.
NORMAL SKIN is an endemic complexion with small pores, thin and soft skin met rarely especially in small children before puberty. This type of complexion tolerates very well rain water and meets difficulties in tolerating calcareous water. If rain water is out of reach, it can be successfully used mineral water or distillated water.
Specialists contraindicate soap for cleansing, but in case of strict necessity is recommended a neuter or slightly acid soap not more than twice a week. Cleansing this type of complexion requires cleansing cream and toner.
OIL SKIN is shiny, lacking elasticity, greasy especially on the forehead, nose wings and chin. This appearance is the consequence of the abnormal activity of the sebaceous glands.
Oily skin has large pores due to the increased quantity of sebum, and becomes yellow in time as a result of miss care. Oily skin is more commonly met among brunettes.
Specialists differentiate two types of oily complexion:
- Oily greasy skin- shiny and, when pressed, presents a smooth surface;
- Asphyxic oily skin- it derives from neglected oily skin and has clogged pores, excessive sebum secretion and a rough exterior layer; there can also be noticed numerous blackheads which sometimes transform into pimples.
Daily care of this type of complexion requires water and soap. If the peel presents certain sensitivity to soap, specialists recommend using it no more than two or three times a week. Most indicated are borax and sulfur soaps.
Regarding oily complexion it is recommended avoiding cleansing creams which underline the oily level of the peel and generate blackheads and pimples etc.
A mixture of 20g of barn, 5g maize flower and 2.5g borax can be used for cleansing. As an alternative to soap specialists recommend a solution consisting in egg white, the juice of half of lemon and 15ml of alcohol added drop by drop.
If the complexion has large pores, compresses with lukewarm water always followed by washing or cold compresses.
If the complexion has small pores astringent aloe lotions are most indicated. Applying night creams should be avoided.
DRY COMPLEXION is very thin, soft, fragile and irritable and it peels very easily. Sometimes fine wrinkles can be noticed as well. If a very thin and fine peace of paper is rolled over the face and then carefully studied and no signs of oil are present the person has dry skin.
There are two categories of dry complexion:
- dry skin due to lack of sebum
- dry skin due to lack of water (dehydrated skin)
Cleansing in case of dry peel requires exclusively an oily cleansing lotion or cleansing milk. A special cleansing can also be carried out using two pieces of cocoa butter rolled over the face or paraffin oil. These substances, however, should only be used if cosmetics are out of reach. Most indicated remain cleansing lotions and creams. After cleansing a lotion destined exclusively to dry skin (chamomile and lime infusions) or a non-alcoholic toner. Instead of lotions mineral water pulverizations can also be used as well as plant infusions. Soaps, hot and calcareous water are contraindicated.
DEHYDRATED COMPLEXIONS are treated just like any other dry complexion, using water rich lotions. It is not advisable to use the soap more than once a week and after that an oily cream must be immediately applied. If the peel presents light irritations, a cream containing ihtiol can be used to calm them.
WRINKLED SKIN Individuals having dry skin are also exposed to the risk of developing a wrinkled complexion. Besides a rational diet, outdoor exercise, breathing exercise, specialists recommend for upkeep the same operations as for dry skin. Protective creams are applied mornings once the matrix is cleansed and toned. Use also anti-wrinkles cream like Strivectin. It is also indicated to apply a fine layer of powder, especially in case of an oily skin, due to its protective and absorptive properties.
COMBINED SKIN - these complexions are very commonly met. It presents an oily secretion on nose, chin, forehead, while the rest of the facial zones are dry. The cleansing of this type of complexion is carried out with cleansing cream or milk and, after that, the skin is toned with a mixture of chamomile, lime and mallow or a toner. Once the cleansing and toning are done, specialists recommend using a night cold cream. For daily upkeep of the complexion, dermatologists advise to change towels every two days and boil them without detergent, dried and ironed. It is also recommended to wad the peel with soft moves when using the towel. Regardless of the type of complexion it is vital to apply masks and to massage the skin on a regular basis.
